What’s Really on Your Mind?

Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men Philippians 2:5-8 NKJV

“More of me less of you”.  “I want to be like him”.  These are just a few of the things we say indicating our longing to be more Christ-like.  Philippians 2:5-8 tells us to have the mind of Christ.  So just exactly what is that mind?  It is with the mind of a servant that he came down from his heavenly throne to serve the need of man for salvation.  Our desire for status and to appear great has dimmed our vision to what it is to be like Jesus. Jesus made his position regarding status plain; but you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves. 27 For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves Luke 22:26-28NIV.  We live in a society where status seems to be everything.  This has even reared its ugly head in our churches just as it did so long ago with the inner circle of Christ disciples. We have determined that in order to be great others must be made small.  But Jesus was clear in the book of Mark 9:33 and he came to Capernaum: and being in the house he asked them, What was it that ye disputed among yourselves by the way? 34 But they held their peace: for by the way they had disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest.35 and he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all. Mark 9:33-35 (KJV ) Even as the disciples walked with Jesus there arose jealousy and strife but the truth he revealed made it clear that it is the servant that prevails.  So the next time you think of being more like Jesus (and I have hope that you will) remember he gave up everything in his love for humanity that all through him might be saved. He became less that we might be more. Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. Matthew 16:24(NKJV)  He became like me; that I might become like him.

Prayer: Father, help me to remember that you are more than enough.  Remove those things in me that would hurt others or hinder them in their desire to be more like you.  Teach me love, peace and As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith
