And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser. she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity;
This verse continues to intrigue me in that it reads “and there was one Anna”. Surely there were others named Anna’s within the tribe of Aser. People in the Bible were famous for naming everyone the same thing. We know there were other prophetesses because we have read their story. BUT there was “only one Anna”; a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser, called to her particular assignment. She had been married and was now a widow. As a young woman she understood where she was supposed to be and what she was supposed to do. After only seven years of marriage she finds herself a widow. As a widow she walked in her calling and her assignment which according to scripture “departed not from the temple, but served God with fasting and prayers night and day”. Committed to her purpose she continued to do that which she had been called to do. Never wavering, totally committed for 84 YEARS! It must be truly amazing to be so totally and completely focused. So faithfully committed to that for which you have been created AND to live out that purpose. Not only to know the purpose; but to know in such assurance that you can remain totally and completely submitted to that purpose.
Jeremiah 1:5 (NKJV)
5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you;
I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”
There is a member of our church that has a favorite phrase that she uses. I have heard the phrase used by others and have even used it myself a couple of times. But there is something in the way she says it. Such a little thing to speak a phrase that so completely sets one apart yet it speaks volumes to the depth of God’s love for each individual created. There’s something unique in her expressive use of the phrase that makes it totally and exclusively hers. This reaffirms my knowing that God has given us gifts and purpose that are exclusively and totally ours; and ours alone. There is no one that will ever be able to duplicate or imitate that unique” Je ne sasis quoi”. It is that “it” that makes you who you are in the kingdom. No one can take it or fake it. Why? Because the word of God says before I formed you in the womb I knew you. How totally special is that! You are his thought, his creation, beautifully and wonderfully made for his purpose and his purpose alone. He only needs “one” unique creation for that thought, that moment, that purpose for which you were created. And you became you.
Father, I thank you that you had me in mind for your purpose. Order ever step that I might walk in that purpose without hesitation. Let all that I do and say honor you as I am the ONE you created for a purpose. Amen
